Iran's Medical University
Originally founded in 1946 as the "Institute of Higher Health Education”, Shiraz University of Medical Sciences (SUMS) stands as one of the longest established medical universities in Iran. In 1949 the Institute evolved into the Medical School of Shiraz University, later renamed Pahlavi University (1954). Additional schools were gradually established, expanding academic activities in various medical fields. In 1986, all medical schools continued their operations under the auspices of the newly established Ministry of Health, Treatment, and Medical Education. This lead to the formation of a stand-alone institution known today as Shiraz University of Medical Sciences (SUMS).
