Associate professor at the University of Otago
Mike Garratt is a researcher at the University of Otago whose work focuses on the biology of ageing and how reproduction, sex differences, and early-life factors shape lifespan and health later in life. Based in the Department of Pathology and Biomedical Sciences, he combines evolutionary biology with experimental and comparative approaches to understand why males and females age differently and how hormones and life-history trade-offs influence longevity. His research spans laboratory models and large cross-species datasets, with the aim of linking fundamental ageing mechanisms to real-world patterns of health and survival.
