Michael Demetriou is a neurologist and molecular geneticist at the University of California, Irvine, where he serves as Professor of Neurology and directs a comprehensive care clinic. He holds both an M.D. and Ph.D. from the University of Toronto and researches how changes in cell-surface sugars (glycans) influence immune cells in autoimmunity and cancer, with a particular focus on glycosylation’s role in T cell behavior, multiple sclerosis, and new cancer immunotherapies like GlyTR.
