Martin Gibala
Professor of Kinesiology at McMaster University
Martin Gibala is a leading exercise physiologist and professor at McMaster University whose research focuses on how exercise and nutrition influence energy metabolism, from cellular changes in muscle to whole-body health. He is internationally recognized for pioneering studies on high-intensity interval training (HIIT), demonstrating that short bursts of vigorous activity can produce many of the same fitness and metabolic benefits as longer, steady-state workouts. His work has reshaped modern exercise science and inspired practical, time-efficient training approaches for both athletes and everyday individuals. In addition to his research, he serves as Chair of the Department of Kinesiology at McMaster University and is the author of a popular book on efficient workout strategies.
