Dr. Kan Cao is a renowned scientist, anti-aging authority and professor of cell biology and molecular genetics at the University of Maryland. Dr. Cao has been studying human aging and in particular the molecular and cellular mechanisms underlying Hutchinson Gilford Progeria syndrome, a premature aging disease that claims most victims by age 13.
Dr. Cao received her BSc degree in Biology from the Nanjing University (China) and her Ph.D. degree in Biology from the Johns Hopkins University. Afterwards, she was chosen to do her postdoctoral fellowship in the lab of Dr. Francis Collins of the National Human Genome Research Institute, where she developed novel approaches to study human skin cell aging.
Among her many accolades, Dr. Cao was named the New Scholar in Aging by the Ellison Medical Foundation (2011-2015), and she received the prestigious Norma M. Allewell Prize in Entrepreneurship from the University of Maryland. She is a close collaborator with the National Science Foundation, the National Institutes of Health, and the Carnegie Institution for Science.
