Professor of experimental pathology at the University of Southampton
Professor Gareth Thomas is a clinical pathologist and tumour biologist at the University of Southampton, specializing in fibroblast biology, immunology, and the tumour microenvironment. His research focuses on how fibroblasts influence cancer progression, particularly their interactions with immune cells that suppress anti-tumour immunity. By characterizing different fibroblast subpopulations, his work aims to develop new therapies targeting fibroblasts to overcome resistance to immunotherapy. Adopting a multidisciplinary approach, Professor Thomas collaborates extensively with colleagues in Cancer Sciences, the Faculty of Medicine, and partners in academia and industry both nationally and internationally.
