Dr. Dominik Dahlem is a VP of Artificial Intelligence at Optum Labs, where he is responsible for researching and developing AI approaches to address potentially disruptive opportunities in healthcare. His aspirations are specifically to develop robust reinforcement learning and deep learning solutions for complex and high-stakes clinical care settings and administrative processes.

Dominik has been working in the area of AI since 2004. Prior to joining OptumLabs, Dominik had been working for 5 years for the Advanced Technology Collaborative in Optum, where he led various functional areas and introduced innovations across several healthcare domains spanning speech, image, clinical, and claims AI. Prior to Optum, Dominik led a data science team in a start-up, he was a research scientist in IBM Research Lab Ireland, and he spent time as a postdoc at MIT, where he was first introduced to working at the intersection of technology, healthcare, and society – a fascination of his that persists to this day. His work featured in the popular media (New York Times, Esquire, Wired), as well as in academic fora, such as Scientific Reports.
