Dr. Daniel Timms is an Australian biomedical engineer renowned for inventing the BiVACOR total artificial heart, a device designed to serve as a long-term solution for patients with severe heart failure.
His inspiration stemmed from the loss of his father to heart failure, motivating him to develop a durable artificial heart. Dr. Timms founded BiVACOR Inc., where he serves as Chief Technical Officer, leading the development of the artificial heart.
His work has been recognized with a nomination for Queensland's Australian of the Year Award in 2023.
The BiVACOR device has undergone successful implantations, including a notable case at the Texas Heart Institute in 2024, where a 57-year-old patient received the artificial heart as part of an FDA-approved early feasibility study.
Dr. Timms continues to collaborate with leading researchers and institutions worldwide to advance cardiovascular care.
