Daily Record

Scottish national tabloid newspaper

The Daily Record is a Scottish national tabloid newspaper headquartered in Glasgow, first published in 1895 as a sister title to the North British Daily Mail. Owned by Reach plc (formerly Trinity Mirror), it is published Monday through Saturday, with its Sunday edition covered by its sister paper, the Sunday Mail. Historically aligned with the Scottish Labour Party, the Record has consistently opposed Scottish independence and maintained close ties with the UK-wide Daily Mirror. Known for its technological innovation—being the first European daily to print in full colour in 1971 and the first British paper to use computer-based page layout—it became a leading voice in Scottish popular journalism throughout the 20th century. Today, while print circulation has declined to around 43,000 copies per issue as of March 2025, the title has refocused on expanding its digital presence, and its website boasts one of the largest online readerships in Scotland.
