The Canada Foundation for Innovation (CFI) is an independent not-for-profit organization that invests in research facilities and equipment in Canada's universities, colleges, research hospitals, and non-profit research institutions. CFI was created in 1997 by the Government of Canada. CFI ensured Canadian researchers have the cutting-edge labs, facilities and equipment to push the frontiers of knowledge in all disciplines, and to contribute to the full spectrum of research from discovery to technology development.
