Professor Andrew Maynard is a leading expert and thought-leader in emerging technologies and their responsible and ethical development and use, a scientist and author, and Associate Dean of Curricula and Student Success in the ASU College of Global Futures. He is also the director of the ASU Risk Innovation Lab, and leads the Risk Innovation Nexus, His latest book, Films from the Future: The Technology and Morality of Sci-Fi Movies, explores ethical and socially responsible innovation through the lens of twelve science fiction movies, while his forthcoming book Future Rising examines humanity's relationship to the future, and its responsibility to it.

Originally trained as a physicist, Professor Maynard's work cuts across areas of expertise ranging from the natural and social sciences to policy and science communication, and currently focuses on the socially responsible and beneficial development of emerging technologies from nanotechnology and synthetic biology, to artificial intelligence, geoengineering and brain-machine interfaces. Between 2008 and 2019 he served on a number of World Economic Forum Global Agenda Councils and Global Future Councils, and contributed to the ideas underpinning the Fourth Industrial Revolution.
