Synthetic biologist and futurist pioneering programmable DNA
Andrew Hessel is a pioneering figure in synthetic biology and genomics, renowned for his vision of treating DNA as a programmable language and living cells as software. He has co-founded major initiatives like the Genome Project‑Write (GP–Write) and the biotech startup Humane Genomics, advancing the idea of engineering custom genomes and designing oncolytic viruses for precision medicine. With a background in microbiology, genetics and bio-informatics, Hessel combines scientific research, entrepreneurship and futurist thinking to explore how digital biology might reshape health, bio-security and even what it means to be human.
