Alan Johnson is the Head of the Department of Healthcare Associated Infection a and Antimicrobial Resistance at Public Health England's Centre for Infectious Disease Surveillance and Control (CIDSC). The Centre is responsible for the collection and collation of national mandatory surveillance data on Clostridium difficile infections, S. aureus and E. coli bloodstream infections and orthopaedic surgical site infections. Prof. Johnson’s work centres on the surveillance of antimicrobial resistance in hospital and community settings. He also has a strong interest in infections in children and has under-taken enhanced surveillance of both infant meningitis and MRSA bacteraemia in children in conjunction with the British Paediatric Surveillance Unit of the Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health.
