Guangdong Medical University, whose predecessor was Zhanjiang Branch of Sun Yat-Sen Medical College, was established in 1958 and upgraded in 1964 as a five- year medical college named Zhanjiang Medical College. The college was officially renamed Guangdong Medical College in 1992 and Guangdong Medical University in 2016. In 2005, it won the title of “Outstanding College” in the undergraduate teaching evaluation by National Ministry of Education and was approved to award Ph.D degree in 2013. In May, 2015, its clinical medical discipline was listed among the global top 1% in ESI (Essential Science Indicators) ranking. Since January, 2016, the universityitselfhas beenamong the global top 1% universities in ESI ranking. During the past five decades, more than 140,000 excellent medical professionals have been trained for the country and the locality.
