Can glucosamine reduce your risk of all cause mortality

But Reason is not yet convinced - definitely needs more, and bigger, studies

01-Dec-2020

Key points from article :

Glucosamine supplements may reduce overall mortality as well as regular exercise does.

“ Keep exercising, but the thought that taking a pill would also be beneficial is intriguing.” - Dana King, lead researcher.

Data of 16,686 adults from National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey from 1999 to 2010 was taken.

Researchers merged these data with 2015 mortality figures.

Taking glucosamine/chondroitin every day for a year lead to a 39% reduction in all-cause mortality.

It was also linked to a 65% reduction in cardiovascular-related deaths.

This is an epidemiological study—not a clinical trial— doesn’t offer definitive proof.

Reason is skeptical as a reduction in inflammation wasn’t observed.
