She earned a bachelor's degree in biology from the University of Northwestern, St. Paul and a master's degree in life sciences communication from the University of Wisconsin, Madison. She worked as a science writer for the College of Engineering at UW-Madison before joining the News Bureau in 2010, covering physical sciences and engineering.
