Elisabeth Widén has been a group leader at FIMM since 2008. She holds an M.D. and Ph.D. at the University of Helsinki, and has received post-doctoral training at Lund University, Sweden, and the Whitehead Institute, USA. Serving as a senior scientist at the Finnish Genome Center in Helsinki, she received a 5-year Academy Fellowship prior to joining FIMM. She also holds an adjunct professorship in Medical Molecular Genetics at the University of Helsinki. Dr. Widén’s main research interest is in the field of complex traits genetics. In particular, she and her research group have carried out large-scale studies to uncover novel genes impacting on pubertal timing and growth. More recently she has also conducted studies aiming at uncovering novel mutations causing fatal arrhythmia disease.
