Xi Jinping (born 1953 in Beijing) is a Chinese “princeling,” the son of Xi Zhongxun—a former vice premier and celebrated Communist Party hero. Educated in Marxist theory and ideological education, with a background in chemical engineering from Tsinghua University and an advanced law degree, Xi became a member of the Politburo Standing Committee in 2007, currently serves as Secretary-General of the Communist Party of China, and chairs the Central Military Commission.
