Dr Steven Nissen is a highly distinguished cardiologist and researcher based at the Cleveland Clinic, where he serves as Chief Academic Officer of the Sydell and Arnold Miller Family Heart, Vascular & Thoracic Institute and holds the Lewis and Patricia Dickey Chair in Cardiovascular Medicine. With over 35 years of clinical and research experience, he is world-renowned for pioneering work in intravascular ultrasound (IVUS) imaging to track the progression and regression of coronary artery disease, and for spearheading large multicentre trials in atherosclerosis. He has authored more than 400 journal articles and 60 book chapters, and has been a powerful voice in drug-safety advocacy, having testified before the U.S. Congress on the need for reform in regulatory oversight. Beyond his professional activities, Dr Nissen is known for bicycling, amateur photography, and a firm commitment to patient care and scientific integrity.
