Prof. Raymond Schiffelers is a prominent expert in nanomedicine and a Full Professor at UMC Utrecht, where he leads the Nanomedicine Lab within the Department of Clinical Chemistry & Hematology. His research focuses on developing synthetic and bio-inspired nanoparticles—such as lipid nanoparticles and extracellular vesicles—for targeted drug delivery. With a background in medical microbiology, he began his career studying liposomal targeting of antimicrobial agents and has since expanded into gene therapy and precision medicine. He has published extensively, received prestigious awards including the Galenus Research Award and ERC grants, and is actively involved in scientific leadership, biotech ventures, and editorial boards.
