Rahul Gupta

Mitochondrial geneticist

Rahul Gupta is an MD-PhD candidate in the Harvard-MIT Health Sciences & Technology program. He holds undergraduate degrees in Chemical Engineering and Biology from the University of Pennsylvania. He conducts research at Massachusetts General Hospital and the Broad Institute under mentors Dr. Vamsi Mootha and Dr. Benjamin Neale. His academic focus is mitochondrial genetics, with expertise in large-scale genome analysis. He led a major study analyzing over 275,000 genomes to identify nuclear loci influencing mitochondrial DNA. He is also the first author of a 2025 study on age-related mtDNA mutations. Rahul will begin internal medicine residency at MGH.
