Nick Watkins

Deputy Director of Products at Joint Biosecurity Centre and former Assistant Director at NHS Blood and Transplant.

Nick joined NHSBT as Assistant Director – Research and Development in June 2011 to provide strategic leadership to our extensive programme of R&D. Prior to joining NHSBT he worked at the Department of Health supporting the work of the Government’s advisory committee on the Safety of Blood, Tissues and Organs (SaBTO). Whilst in this role he helped develop safety policies relating to transfusion and transplantation transmitted infections. Nick has a DPhil in Antibody Engineering from the University of York, an MBA from the University of Cambridge and has published over 80 scientific papers in a broad range of fields. In 2002 he received the Jean Julliard Prize from the International Society of Blood Transfusion for his work characterising antibodies to blood cells.
