Jane Wharton

Assistant news editor at Metro

I'm a dedicated news journalist and editor with over 15 years experience, including a decade working for the UK nationals.

I started as a reporter in Kolkata, India, before moving back to the UK and honing my skills on local papers in Essex.

I then spent several years at the National News agency in London before starting work as a reporter at the Daily Express. After a few years I moved onto the newsdesk to become the Night News Editor. Two years ago I made the switch from print to digital, taking up the position of Digital News Director.

I know what makes a good story and pride myself on my ability to lead a team while remaining calm under pressure.

I have just completed two years as an English teacher and Communications Manager for The Red Sweater Project. It is an African-based NGO that provides education for families below the poverty line in Tanzania.
