Emergency medical services
The East of England Ambulance Service NHS Trust (EEAST) provides emergency medical services to over 6 million people across Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire, Essex, Hertfordshire, Norfolk, and Suffolk. Established in 2006, it operates from three control centres and manages over one million 999 calls annually. EEAST employs around 4,000 staff and 1,500 volunteers, using ambulances, rapid response vehicles, and patient transport services. It also partners with regional air ambulance charities. While rated “requires improvement” by the Care Quality Commission, the trust continues to upgrade services and training. EEAST plays a key role in regional health response, including critical care and major incident management.
