100-electrode implant is wired in the visual cortex in the rear of the brain.
Each electrode can deliver a current to between one and four neurons.
Current setup of electrodes could last up to 10 years before it fails, according to researchers.
Ceiling lights, letters, basic shapes printed on paper, and people are identified thanks to the implant.
