Tissue engineered thymus organoids could replace thymic function

Researchers create thymus organoids using tissue engineering.
Shrinking of the thymus due to ageing, declines production of new T cells.
Leads to immune system dysfunction and increased cancer risk with ageing.
Engineered small thymus organoids that can attract thymocytes.
Transplanted to mice, but failed to produce T cells as the organoids didn’t last long enough.
Plans to produce a persistent organoid in the future.
